Shakespeare’s Italy II:
Rome & Sicily
Spring 2027
dates and details to be announced summer 2026
Our second adult study abroad offering will take us to southern Italy—Rome and Sicily, specifically—to immerse ourselves in the settings of more of Shakespeare’s most beloved and important plays. Discover a play from each of Shakespeare’s major theatrical genres in this program: the history Julius Caesar and the tragedy Titus Andronicus, both set in Rome, as well as the romance The Winter’s Tale and comedy Much Ado About Nothing, both set in Sicily. Learn why southern Italy—a place Shakespeare may have never even set foot—was the inspiration for so much of the playwright’s work, and why this ancient capital city and the charming island at the literal foot of the country remain, for different reasons, so important in the cultural imagination today.
Like Shakespeare’s Italy I, this program includes six weeks of online seminars followed by a ~10 day trip to Rome and Sicily. Dates and other details to be announced. For updates, please watch this space and make sure to sign up for our newsletter!
